Serving Sunday 2024

Worship is simply loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.  It’s putting Him about all else.  Thus, worship can be so many more things than only singing. For 13 years, we have taken one Sunday where the entire church humbles ourselves in service to others AS an expression of worship.  Instead of meeting on campus for services, we go out and serve the organizations and people who care for the least and the lost in our community, letting them know we are with them and for them in a very tangible way.  Worshipping through serving – all ages together as a beautiful expression of doing as Jesus did.

Here’s how Serving Sunday works.  On Sunday, April 21st, you will serve on a project that you choose and register for.  This year we have 28 projects at 17 different locations.  There are projects for everyone!  Family friendly for those with littles, projects which don’t require physical exertion, building, landscaping, painting…projects on this church campus and all over our community.  If you can’t serve, you have an opportunity to donate blood.  Or you can serve and donate blood.  You can also donate funds to help provide the needed materials for the work we do by going to our online giving and selecting ‘Serving Sunday 2024.’

You can find all projects, details, and registration links on the homepage of our website or directly at cibolocreek.com/servingsunday!  I encourage you to register soon as these projects fill up!

Then, on Sunday, April 21st, we will ALL gather in the auditorium at 9am before we go to our projects for prayer and send off.  AND we are adding a new element to Serving Sunday!!  In an effort to love our community with an outrageous kind of love, the hope is for everyone to bring either one pack of diapers or one pack of baby wipes.  These will go with the Hill Country Pregnancy Care Center team to bless the families they serve.  Are you in?  Can we add some more generosity and love to Serving Sunday?  I know this church family; you are always up for being with and for our community.

Every year we have a Serving Sunday challenge.  Last year you met it with highest number of folks ever showing the love of Christ through this annual initiative.  This year’s challenge is this…

There are people among us in Fair Oaks Ranch, Boerne, Bergheim, Comfort, San Antonio, Bulverde, Leon Springs…who don’t yet know that Jesus loves them as they are.  That He invites them to be part of the family.  And sometimes there is a barrier that keeps people from entering a church building for various reasons, sometimes valid reasons.  But they might paint alongside you.  They might clear brush or muck a horse stall.  That’s 2 or 3 hours of time building a bridge and maybe taking a step closer to Jesus.  But you must invite them!

When we accept Jesus as our savior, we get to have a relationship with Christ and home in heaven.  But we are not saved for just that.  We are saved so that.  How about our ‘so that’ is that we are a light AND we are inviting others into it.  Serving Sunday is a great opportunity to start thinking about who in your circle needs Jesus and a church family who will walk with them. I’m challenging you to invite someone who doesn’t have a church family to join you on Serving Sunday.  Challenge accepted?

Serving Sunday verses are Matthew 25:35-40 35 “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
