The Scriptures affirm certain practices or habits as being crucial to nurturing a thriving relationship with Jesus. In John 15:1-8, Jesus illustrates the vital connection between Him and His followers as a vine and a branch. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” - John 15:5The Christian who honors these important expressions of spiritual renewal finds the peace and power which comes with honoring the priority of our relationship with Jesus. In relationship, we learn to hear from Him, recognize His voice, to trust Him and to obey what He has set forth as a life lived for Him. Jesus modeled a rhythm of life for His followers, as if to say, “Come apart with Me and stay awhile. Cease from all the hurry, quiet the noise, set aside the clutter. And linger here with Me.”
Cultivate constant conversation with God through prayer as we move throughout our day.“Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving.”- Colossians 4:2
Obey Him.Listen to the voice of God by meditating on Scripture each day.
“Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says” - James 1:22
Trust Him.Protect time for spiritual rest apart from the demands of life. Trust Him with your time. This is the heartbeat of Sabbath.“Lord I put my life in Your hand. I trust in You, my God.” - Psalm 25:1-2

We seek first the rule of God in our life when we make Him our highest priority in our regular rhythms. Endeavor to slow down and set aside the hurry and noise clamoring for attention in our soul. Recognize that without Him, we cannot thrive in the ways which truly matter. When all is said and done, Jesus invites you to spend time with Him. Relax in His presence and enjoy His company. When you meet Him there, stay awhile. It will be the wisest thing you do all day.
