Your One & Only Life
A Study of the Book of
Philippians Series starts Sunday, August 30, 2009
We have embarked on something we have never done before here at Cibolo Creek. For thirteen years now, we have tackled the Bible in bite-sized chunks called “series“. We have selected topics around which we have built a series of three, four, maybe five messages unpacking what the Bible teaches about a particular theme. These themes have been on timely topics and critical concerns related to our continuing discovery of what it means to be followers of Jesus Christ. From worry to marriage, from finances to idol worship, we have covered just about every topic out there.
However, for quite some time now our Senior Pastor, Paul Wilson, has shouldered a quiet burden of taking a bit of a different approach. What if we took the time to study a single book of the Bible in its entirety and allowed the Scriptures to choose our topics for us? What if a series lasted as long as was necessary to exhaust a book’s primary theme rather than changing it up every few weeks or so to keep people’s interest? What if a series lasted months instead of weeks?
On Sunday, August 30, we embarked on a book study that may take us months to complete. There may be a few interruptions along the way, but for the near future at Cibolo Creek on Sunday mornings we will be unpacking the New Testament Book of Philippians in a study entitled “Your One & Only Life.” Whether you are a spiritual explorer or a deeply committed follower of Jesus Christ, this book has something very important to say to each of us. The Apostle Paul writes a letter that embodies the clarity that comes only with the realization it may be one of the last things you write before you die. He is very focused when he writes this letter to the Church at Philippi. It shoves aside the superfluous and focuses solely on the non-negotiable of what it means to live a life that truly matters.
If you’re interested in making the most of your one and only life, the Book of Philippians holds the key.
So settle in, this may take a while. But it may well be worth every minute. |
